What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise method that strengthens, stretches and controls the body. More and more physiotherapists recommend doing Pilates.
The inventor of this method, Joseph Pilates, started training in police schools (Scotland Yard), the disabled, sick veterans and later also sportsmen such as boxers and dancers. The focus is on moving the body as efficiently as possible.
Proprioception is the main focus, it is very important for being able to control your body in all possible ways, and the older we get the more we have to work on that. Injuries occur due to unilateral movements. Just think of someone behind a computer, a hostess who has to wear high heels all day, or a hairdresser who works in an unhealthy position.
Pilates mobilizes and lengthens the spine and strengthens the deep core muscles that hold everything together.
It can prevent back pain, neck pain, headaches or other issues in the body.
